CLOVIS — A Curry County grand jury on Friday returned a 33-count indictment against Nathaniel Ray Jouett, 16, who is accused in the mass shooting at the Clovis-Carver Public Library on Aug. 28.
Two library workers died in the violence, and four people were injured.
A news release from District Attorney Andrea Reeb said the case will proceed through the adult criminal justice system.
If Jouett is convicted of first-degree murder, he will be sentenced as an adult and could face life in prison, Reeb said. If he is convicted of lesser charges, he could be sentenced as a juvenile.
Jouett was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of child abuse, four counts of aggravated battery and 20 counts of assault with intent to commit a violent felony.
