1982: Winners of the Wool Lead Class at the 1982 Curry County Fair included pre-school boy Newlee Hester ("decked out in a beige three-piece suit,") pre-school girl Mandy Helmer ("laced in a pink ruffled overdress and skirt"), and booster Rachelle Hester ("elegantly fitted in a mauve blouse with draping sleeves and a striped woolen overdress").

Winners of the older divisions were sub-deb Marilyn Copeland (in a "unique red-fitted jacket and flared skirt with black trimming"), and senior Hope James (wearing "a short fitted jacket and flared skirt in a blue color scheme").

All were pictured with their lambs and the trophies in a front page Clovis News-Journal photo.

1972: A Clovis High School student had been suspended for violating the hair policy at the school.

Male students were required to have hair "cut and worn in such a manner that the bottom of the ear will show at all times." Guys' locks were not allowed to "fall below the collar or touch the eyebrows."

Sideburns were restricted to be "no longer than the bottom of the ear lobe," and no wider than one and three-quarter inches "at the widest part."
