Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

The library will never be the same

I have been struggling what to say, how to express my feelings over the horrific shooting on Monday afternoon at the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

The library has lost two beloved staff members, Kristina Carter and Wanda Walters. Words cannot express how I am mourning the loss of these two co-workers; they were a vital part of my library family. They will be strongly missed by patrons, staff members, and myself.

Both women were beautiful souls, had a joy for living and for serving the public at the library.

The library will never be the same.

Krissie, as the youth services librarian, brought joy and happiness to kids of all ages. She was an energetic, enthusiastic, and devoted librarian and handled all aspects of children's services with joy in her heart.

Wanda, as a circulation assistant, was always front and center, helping patrons check in and out books, providing reading advisory services, handling patrons' concerns and requests. She was a strong-willed woman who found joy in all that she did in her busy and hectic life.

Jessica Thron, a circulation assistant, has had shoulder surgery. According to all reports, the three injured patrons and Jessica are doing well.

The outpouring of love from the community and city officials and libraries across the state and nation have provided comfort and solace to me and my staff.

I thank all of you for your comforting words, continuing prayers, phone calls, texts, messages.

My staff is a strong group and love and support each other yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We are family.

Keep us in your prayers, in your thoughts, and in your hearts. My staff and I love each and every one of our patrons and love the work that is done for my hometown of Clovis in our vibrant, beautiful, remarkable library.
