Clovis officials prep fiscal year budget

CLOVIS — Clovis is crunching the numbers for the new city budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

LeighAnn Melancon, the Clovis Director of Finance, who complies each city department into the preliminary budget, said things are pretty much routine in Clovis.

“All of our departments continue to operate on flat budgets, and have for 20 years,” said Melancon.

Most of the adjustments are for utilities, insurance and fuel on a year-to-year basis as costs increase.

According to Melancon, the existing preliminary budget will change a lot once grants from state and federal agencies for various departments go through.

The preliminary budget for the upcoming fiscal year is at a total of $44,416,898 in expenditures throughout the city. The total expenditures for last year according to the 2016-17 preliminary budget was a total of $44,722,453.

The day-to-day operating budget has stayed even as well. Last year, the projection was $23,763,090. This year’s general operating budget is at $23,888,522.

In addition to the total expenditures and the total operating budget, Melancon said it is important to take note of the projected revenue for each year.

“The revenue and expenditures are fairly balanced with one another,” said Melancon.

For the upcoming year, the projected revenue is $44,871,773. That is $454,835 more than what is expected to be spent by the city.
