This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and New Mexico Department of Game & Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

Northwest

Abiquiu Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Animas River — Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 1,050 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using weighted wooly buggers and worms for trout.

Albuquerque Area Drains — Chris Ortega reported catching and releasing several rainbow trout while fishing the drain between Paseo and Montano. He was using egg patterns trailed by olive, green and copper colored nymphs. We had no other reports.

Bluewater Lake — Fishing was slow for all species

Brazos River — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Canjilon Lakes — Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice due to danger from falling trees.

Chama River — Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 1,210 cfs and 1,590 cfs respectively. Fishing has been slow with the high-water release. A few trout have been caught by anglers using salmon eggs and worms. Catch and release with single barbless hook, artificial fly and lure only from the gauging station below Cooper’s Landing to the Rio Nutrias confluence.

Cochiti Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

El Vado Lake — Fishing was fair using curly tail grubs, crank baits and jerk baits for smallmouth bass. We had no other reports. The main area park boat ramp has opened.

Fenton Lake — Fishing was good using worms, lime green PowerBait, wooly buggers, Super Dupers and Pistol Petes for trout. Jason Sanchez of Albuquerque caught an 18-inch brown trout this past Sunday. He was using a Super Duper. Jose Guerrero caught an 18-inch rainbow. He was using garlic glitter PowerBait.

Heron Lake — Bank fishing was good using roe sacs and PowerBait for rainbow trout. A few lake trout in the 5 to 7-pound range have been caught by anglers using cut bait. We had no other reports. The Sierra Vista boat ramp has opened and the boat dock is in place.

Jackson Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Jemez Waters — Stream flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 243 cfs and fishing was slow. Fishing on the East Fork was fair to good using copper John Barrs, bead-head hare’s ears and worms for brown trout. Anglers also reported catching an occasional rainbow. Trout fishing on the Cebolla was fair using worms and salmon eggs. We had no other reports.

Lake Farmington — Nonmotorized watercraft are now allowed on Lake Farmington. Fees are $50 for the season or $5 daily. We had no reports from anglers.

Manzano Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Navajo Lake — Fishing was fair using jigs, worms, grubs, swim baits and crank baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using swim baits, spinner baits and crank baits for northern pike. Fishing for crappie was slow but a few were caught by anglers using small grubs. We had no other reports.

San Gregorio Lake — We had no reports from anglers.

Seven Springs Brood Pond — Fishing was good using worms, Fire Bait, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

San Juan River — Stream flow from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 479 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality waters was fair to good using red larva, OJs, red annelids, bead-head pheasant tail nymphs and olive and brown wooly buggers. Fishing through the bait waters was good using night crawlers, PowerBait, wooly buggers, copper John Barrs, jerk baits and Kastmasters.

Seven Springs Brood Pond — Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout.

Tingley Beach — Trout fishing at the Central and Youth ponds was very good using PowerBait, Gulp eggs, marshmallows, salmon eggs, homemade dough bait, Super Dupers, Kastmasters and Pistol Petes. We had no other reports.

Trout Lakes — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Northeast

Charette Lakes — Fishing was very good using PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.

Clayton Lake — Fishing was very good using worms and PowerBait for limits of rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species. Due to low water conditions, the boat ramp remains closed.

Cimarron River — Stream flow below Eagle Nest Lake on Monday was .20 cfs. Trout fishing was good using red San Juan worms, green copper John Barrs, worms and drifted salmon eggs. The best spinners were black bodied Panther Martins with the gold spinner. A section of the river has been closed due to a fuel spill. The closed area starts at mile marker 291 and goes to the Perryville Day use area. Anglers are asked to steer clear of the area. Trout fishing at the Gravel Pit Lakes was very good for anglers using salmon peach and garlic PowerBait, worms and gold and black Panther Martins.

Conchas Lake — Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, jerk baits, tubes, sweet beavers, senkos and grubs for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair using jig and grub combinations, crank baits and jig and minnow combinations for walleye. Fishing was fair using small grubs, small tubes and minnows for crappie. Fishing was good using liver, night crawlers and cut bait for catfish. The surface water temp was in the mid 50s.

Cowles Ponds — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Coyote Creek — Trout fishing was slow to fair using worms and salmon eggs.

Eagle Rock Lake — Fishing was very good using Pink Shrimp and Silver Label salmon eggs, Fire Bait and PowerBait for rainbow trout.

Eagle Nest Lake — Bank fishing was good using salmon eggs and PowerBait for rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species. The lake has opened to boating and one of the courtesy boat docks is partially installed and useable.

Gallinas River — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Hopewell Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Alice — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Maloya — Trout fishing was good using green garlic PowerBait and black and olive wooly buggers.

Los Pinos River — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Maxwell Lake 13 — Fishing continued slow this past week with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait.

Monastery Lake — Fishing was good using Pistol Petes, San Juan worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. Danielle Groetzinger of Santa Fe caught a 19-inch rainbow April 6. She was using a marabou olive Pistol Pete.

Morphy Lake — Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait, worms and spoons for trout.

Pecos River — Streamflow near Pecos on Monday was 146 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using San Juan worms, copper John Barrs, salmon eggs, Blue Fire Brine shrimp, corn, Garlic Salmon Egg Fire Bait and worms for trout. Joseph Roybal of Pecos caught two nice rainbow trout this past Sunday while fishing the river near the Dalton day use area. They measured 18 inches and 19.5 inches and were caught with corn.

Red River — Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday was 123 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using wooly buggers and worms for trout.

Red River City Ponds — Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Rio Grande — Stream flow on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 715 cfs. Fishing in the Taos area was good using caddis dries and nymphs and poundmeisters for trout. A few were also caught by anglers using worms and salmon eggs. Fishing down river from Bernalillo and through the Albuquerque area was fair using liver and night crawlers for catfish. We had no other reports.

Rio Hondo — Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 52 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Rio Mora — As of Monday, stream flow near Terrero was 39 cfs. Fishing was very good using worms, Fire Bait, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Rio Pueblo — Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 73 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Barbara River — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Cruz Reservoir — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Shuree Ponds — Open for the season July 1.

Springer Lake — Fishing was slow to fair using cut bait for northern pike. We had no reports on other species.

Storrie Lake — Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.

Ute Lake — Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, jig and minnow combinations, curly tail grubs and jerk baits for walleye. The jerk baits continued working best in the late evening hours. Fishing was fair using senkos, grubs and tubes for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using stink baits and prepared baits in shallow water for catfish. The surface water temp was in the mid 50s.

Winsor Creek — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Southwest

Alumni Pond — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Bear Canyon Lake — Fishing was slow to fair using night crawlers for catfish. We had no other reports.

Bill Evans Lake — Fishing was fair using PowerBait and Pistol Petes for rainbow trout. Fishing for largemouth bass was slow with just a few caught by anglers using tubes and jigs. We had no other reports.

Caballo Lake — Fishing was fair using grubs, tubes and minnows for a mixed bag of walleye, white bass and crappie. The best action again this week was reported from anglers fishing the upper end of the lake. We had no other reports.

Elephant Butte Lake — Fishing was fair using crank baits, jerk baits and grubs for white bass. Fishing was slow to fair using jigs, tubes, senkos, grubs, swim baits, crank baits and jerk baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was good using cut bait, prepared baits and liver for catfish. We had no other reports.

Escondida Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Gila River — Stream flow on Monday morning was 348 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Glenwood Pond — Fishing was good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Lake Roberts — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Percha Dam — Fishing was slow to fair using night crawlers and liver for catfish. We had no other reports.

Quemado Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Rio Grande — Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 1,300 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using grubs, spoons and live Fire Dye minnows for largemouth bass and walleye. Fishing was fair using night crawlers for catfish. We had no other reports.

Snow Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Young Pond — Fishing was slow for all species.

Southeast

Alto Lake — Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no other reports.

Bataan Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Black River — Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 7.4 cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.

Blue Hole Park Pond — Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms, marshmallows and salmon eggs for trout.

Bonito Lake — Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage.

Bosque Redondo Lake — Fishing was fair using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing was slow to fair using night crawlers and liver for catfish. We had no other reports.

Bottomless Lakes — Fishing was slow to fair using salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout.

Brantley Lake — Anglers are required to catch and release all fish here as high levels of pesticides have been found in some fish. Fishing was very good using crank baits, swim baits, senkos, tubes, grubs and jerk baits for a mixed bag of white bass and largemouth bass.

Carlsbad Municipal Lake — Fishing was fair using worms, homemade dough bait and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.

Chaparral Park Lake — Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.

El Rito Creek — Fishing was very good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms, small spoons and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no other reports.

Eunice Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Green Meadow Lake — Fishing was slow to fair using small spoons, salmon eggs, garlic cheese, worms and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.

Greene Acres Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Grindstone Reservoir — Fishing was very good using worms, salmon eggs, garlic PowerBait and spoons for trout. We had no other reports.

Jal Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Van — Fishing was slow to fair using Pistol Petes, PowerBait and worms for trout. We had no other reports.

Oasis Park Lake — We had no reports from anglers this week.

Pecos River — Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 106 cfs. Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms and homemade dough bait for trout. We had no other reports.

Perch Lake — Fishing was good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing was fair using stink bait and worms for catfish. We had no other reports.

Ruidoso River — Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 16 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Rosa Lake — Fishing was fair using crank baits, jerk baits, tubes, minnows and swim baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing for walleye was fair using minnows, crank baits and curly tail grubs. We had no other reports.

Sumner Lake — Fishing was fair using minnows, curly tail grubs, crank baits and bottom bouncer spinner minnow combinations for walleye. Fishing was fair using crank baits, jerk baits, tubes, grubs, worms and senkos for white bass, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. A few catfish were caught by anglers using night crawlers. We had no other reports.
