Spring time to mix, layer

We've seen it all this week in weather on the high plains; warm summer breezes, high winds and even snow on the ground. If you're from the area, you're familiar with the annoying sudden changes in temperature. On the flip side is that you can dress your entire closet. Everyone has their favorite seasonal outfits and accessories. Here's how to stay ready for tricky weather this season.

n Spend a little extra on a stylish umbrella. I go through umbrellas like disposable water bottles. All must know that it’s imperative to keep an umbrella in tote in eastern New Mexico because it can start to rain at any moment in the spring. Try a colorful one for a pop of color to contrast the gloomy skies.

n Get out your trench coat. Not only is the trench on trend this season but it has been revamped to fit your liking. There are ones with graphics to give you the street-style look and those that are accented with cascading ruffles. This khaki lightweight jacket works with every style and layers well.

n Choose rain boots that you'll wear in years to come. Again, you're not going to escape the rain in spring, so find a pair that you think will complement your ever-changing style. Plus, you may want to go up a size for thick cozy socks when needed.

n Keep your favorite layered pieces in sight. You may have a long sleeve button-up you wear in the fall and a cropped spaghetti strap you wear for summer. Put them together and you have a trendy layered look for spring.

n Bright colored finger nails. Your typical manicure for spring is bright colors. Bright nail polish looks great with neutral clothing.

n Throw a bomber jacket over a slinky slip dress. It’s especially fun to mix and match in the spring because you get to sport some of your best creations.

Sweaters with skirts and jackets with shorts go hand in hand this time of year. Make the most of the sunshine and occasional gloomy skies.
