Salesman accused in sex assault due in court

March 29, 2017

CLOVIS — An Albuquerque vacuum cleaner salesman accused of criminal sexual penetration is due in magistrate court at 9 a.m. Thursday for a preliminary hearing.

Brandon Barron, 27, is accused of assaulting a 51-year-old Clovis woman on March 15 after demonstrating the vacuum.

He remained in Curry County Adult Detention Center on Tuesday with a $20,000 cash bond.

The victim, treated for rectal bleeding at Plains Regional Medical Center after she reported she was raped, said she allowed the man into her home to demonstrate the vacuum.

She told police she had been a victim of sexual assault as a teenager and that suspect was not prosecuted.

“What she took from that,” court records show, “was she would / could get beat up and ‘they’ would just do it anyway, even if she said no.”

The woman said she performed a sex act on Barron in hopes that “things would be fine.”

But the man then asked for additional sex and “did not stop at her request,” records show.

The woman said Barron was in her house about 45 minutes before his boss picked him up.

The charge is a third-degree felony.
