Hobbs sweeps Clovis softball squad

Lady Cats held to one hit in doubleheader

HOBBS — If there was any positive for the Clovis High softball team Tuesday night in Hobbs ... at least it doesn’t count in district play?

The former District 4-5A rivals battled Tuesday night, with the host Eagles taking a pair of easy 6-0, 12-0 victories.

Hobbs (7-2) notched 19 hits, and Hobbs’ combination of Genesis Armendariz and Amy Vigil held Clovis to one hit on the night. Armendariz pitched a no-hitter in the first contest.

Their first (pitcher) was amazing,” Clovis coach Brandi Thomas said. “She’s the best that we’ve seen all year. (Against Vigil), we just weren’t patient at the plate.

Clovis (0-12) struck quickly in the nightcap, with Celeste Chavez hitting a double that hit off the fence and bounced back in. But she became the lone highlight, and was stranded in scoring position.

“Everything else," Thomas said, "we’d go down, swinging a bat for no reason and not being patient.”

Clovis hosts Roswell in a 4:30 p.m. Tuesday doubleheader.
