Teen attempts suicide at Freshman Academy

Staff report

Clovis school officials confirmed a 14-year-old girl attempted suicide Tuesday in a restroom at the Clovis High School Freshman Academy.

Kerry Parker, assistant superintendent for human resources, said the girl, who was unnamed, was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center and her mother was contacted.

The extent of the girl’s injuries were not life threatening, Parker said.

Parker said it was her understanding that two female students heard a commotion in the restroom, discovered the girl and reported the matter to staff.

Parker was told by district staff the girl had family issues at home. She said school officials will attempt to learn more in the coming days, but the top concern on Tuesday was the girl’s safety.
