PORTALES — Senior outside hitter Lauren Frye converted 25 kills on Saturday night as Eastern New Mexico University’s volleyball team completed a weekend Lone Star Conference sweep at Greyhound Arena with a 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 victory over Texas Woman’s at Greyhound Arena.
The Greyhounds (10-8, 5-3 LSC) also came from a game down on Friday to beat Texas A&M-Commerce in four.
Junior libero Andrea Aguilar led five Hounds in double figures in digs with 30, while junior setter Alexis Aguirre posted 35 assists. Courtney Noel had a team-high 19 kills for the Pioneers (6-11, 2-6).
ENMU is back in action on Friday with a 5 p.m. (MDT) LSC match at Tarleton State.
Men’s soccer — ENMU played to a 1-1, double-overtime draw with Rogers State in Heartland Conference action on Saturday at Greyhound Field.
The Hounds (4-5-3, 2-4-2 Heartland) took the lead late in the first half when Nicolai Alstrom converted a free kick by Robbie Leonard for the only tally of the half.
The Hillcats (6-3-3, 3-3-2) tied it about nine minutes into the second half when Niall Smith punched in a shot from close range on the left side.
ENMU junior James Gutierrez made 11 saves in the match as the Hillcats outshot the Hounds 12-7 on goal, while the Hounds had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Each team picked up four yellow cards in the match.
The next outing for ENMU will be at home against Dallas Baptist in Heartland Conference play, slated for 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Cross country — ENMU swept both team titles in Friday’s Buffalo Stampede at Canyon, Texas, winning the women’s team title with 23 points to 38 for host West Texas A&M, 69 for New Mexico Highlands and 105 for Oklahoma Panhandle State.
On the men’s side, the Hounds finished with 34 points, followed by NMHU at 38 and WT at 61.
ENMU’s Melina Gryscka led a 1-2-3 finish in the women’s 6K race. The senior from Garbsen, Germany, posted a time of 22 minutes, 48.30 seconds, and was followed by Marcy Rotlich (23:02.30) and Coley Norcross (23:42.20).
Also finishing in the top 10 for ENMU were Sierra Quinones, ninth in 24:30.00, and Nancy Rodriguez, ninth in 24:53.30.
Sophomore Garrett Meyer led the men’s team, posting a time of 27:12.10 over eight kilometers. Marcel Skalecki was fifth in 27:21.40, Tito Chaldez-Martinez III placed eighth in 27:23.40 and Lorenzo Juarez came in ninth at 27:38.20.
ENMU returns to action on Oct. 22 in the Lone Star Conference championships, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
