Berry: Time for a new fly swatter

I think fair time brings out the kid in all of us. I remember my excitement as a kid, knowing we were going to the fair. There were the familiar smells of the various animals. The dust from the midway and, of course, the food. I am not saying I went to the fair for the food, but it was a really good reason to be there.

We would always wait to eat after we had visited the different buildings. My brother and I would walk along behind my mom and dad as they stopped at the booths throughout the building. They would walk away with such a variety of treasures that they needed something to carry them in.

Fortunately, at one booth, they were given a plastic bag to use in the car for trash. This was followed with key chains, bottle openers and, one time, an oven mitt.

All of these things were great, but the real treasure was a brand new fly swatter. It seems that every adult I saw had one and you could hear them at work in some of the booths. After accumulating these necessities, the next stop was always the American Legion for a hamburger. Made for an unforgettable night.
