Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Staff report
Scholastic achievement, commitment to service and a laser-focused approach to making a difference in the lives of others will be celebrated during today’s Clovis Christian High School graduation ceremony.
“We’re extremely proud of this year’s graduates,” said Clovis Christian Schools Superintendent and High School Principal Ladona Clayton. “I believe they are exceptional. They worked very hard in the classroom, finished strong and are walking away with a scholarship.”
Clayton said proceedings, which will be held at 2 p.m. at Living Stones Community Church, represent the school’s 21st graduation class — with the 2016 edition comprised of four students.
Among the key elements of the graduation, per Clayton, is the presentation of the Most Distinguished Scholar and Outstanding Scholar Awards, which will go to Madilyn Cook and Tia Covert, respectively. Clayton said en route to the Outstanding Scholar designation, Covert has earned 36 college credit hours and will begin her collegiate studies as a sophomore.
Additionally, Clayton said Covert has earned the school’s highest honor —the Eagle Award.
“In order to earn the Eagle Award, the recipient has to demonstrate academic leadership, athletic performance and take an active role in extracurricular activities,” she said. “Tia has certainly met that criteria and proven to be well-rounded in all aspects of school life. Most importantly, she demonstrates a Christ-like lifestyle in all areas.”
Clayton said the graduates are the true embodiment of the type of student Clovis Christian Schools endeavors to produce.
“They’re fine Christian people,” she said. “And they’re taking that with them. They’ve made us proud and serve as shining stars for our school. They’ve demonstrated a willingness to share of themselves as a means of enhancing our community — and for that we’re all grateful.”
