State track
Track Coach Pablo Pena will be taking qualifying students from the Dora Track Team to Albuquerque to compete at the New Mexico State Track Meet today.

Nine students from the Dora chapter of the Business Professionals of America who qualified at the state level will be traveled to the national contest on Tuesday and will return on Monday: Jessica Barron, Isaac Carrasco, McCray Clark, Velinda Fierro, Perla Trevino, Shania Ramirez, Charlyn Simpson, Dakota Newman and Gema Villanueva.
Debbie Smith, sponsor, accompanied the students to the competition, which is held in Boston, Massachusetts, this year.
Award assemblies
• Athletic banquet, 4 p.m. Monday at an undetermined location in Dora schools
• Junior high and high school Academic Awards Assembly, 10:30 a.m. May 12 in the school auditorium
• Awards Assembly for grades 1-3, 8:30 a.m. May 12 in the school auditorium
• Awards Assembly for grades 4-6, 9:30 a.m. May 12 in the school auditorium
Kindergarten graduation
The Dora class of 2028 will have their program to celebrate their graduation from Kindergarten on May 11. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the school auditorium.
Members of this year’s Kindergarten class are: Emma Ainsworth, Rilee Belcher, Teagyn Buras, Jace Christian, Isaac Jasso, Brooke Kendrick, Shawna Mapp, Amanda Marquez, Easton Mignard, Grayson Morrison, Trinity Mullins, Chandler Paxton, Julieta Quirino, Laney Reese, Andrew Rivers, Grydar Tipton and Juan Tovar.
Class of 2016 graduation
The Dora senior class will have their commencement exercises at 3 p.m. May 14 in the Guy Luscombe Gymnasium.
Members of the Class of 2016 are: Jaecy Banther, Austin Beaty, Treyton Beggs, Levi Bickham, Kaly Cone, Sterling Cowdrey, Casey Faver, Lindsey Fletcher, Josh Garrett, Avery Gonzales, Andrew Gramzow, Tyler Hise, Michael Garrett Jacobs, Brittany Kanmore, Tyler Lewis, Samuel McConnell, Brock Powell, Dalton Privett, Sabrina Roberts, Dylan Shelton and Canon Sims.
Elementary track meet
Dora Elementary students will compete in their annual track meet at the school. Running events will begin at 9:30 a.m. and finish around 11:15 a.m. Field events will begin after lunch at 12:30 p.m. and last until around 3 p.m. There will be a concession provided by the Dora Parent/Teacher/Student Organization.
Last day of school
May 12 is the last day of school for Dora students. Students are to have all their textbooks and athletic uniforms returned, lunch charges paid and accounts all clear by Wednesday. School will be dismissed after lunch on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. with buses running at 12:35 p.m. School will resume in August. Report cards will be issued next week.
ENMUENMU freshman wins national competition
Jacob Barrow, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, entered his orchestral composition, "Keepers of the Deep," into the Robert J. Bradshaw call for scores for the Huntsville (Alabama) Youth Orchestra's sixth annual Young Composers' Forum at the Tennessee Valley Music Festival.
Jacob’s composition was selected as one of two winners for the competition. As one of the two winners, he will attend the Tennessee Valley Music Festival in Huntsville, Alabama, June 5-11, sitting in on rehearsals of his piece, attending lectures and seminars, as well as many other musical opportunities.
ENMU football player faces cancer
ENMU football player Elliot Peters was recently diagnosed with stage four testicular cancer.
According to his wife, Ciara, Peters will be going through four rounds of chemotherapy that will take nine to 12 weeks to complete.
