Portales High School

Jonathan Montiel

What makes you excited to graduate and what makes you nervous?

What makes me excited to graduate is my future plans, going to play football in Plainview for Wayland Baptist University. I’m still a little nervous, because I feel like graduation’s coming fast.

What has been your favorite thing about high school?

My favorite thing about high school would just have to be the organization in itself, because I’ve lived here my whole life and gone through the schools, and really, just the people in this town have been amazing.

Hailee Borel

What will you be doing next year and what led you to that decision?

I’ll be going to McNeese University in Louisiana for nursing. I’ll be starting the nursing program, and I’ve always liked to help people, to make them happy and healthy, so that’s what kind of led me to that decision.

Why did you choose your university?

That’s where I was born, and that’s where all my family lives, so I’m just going to go home to my family.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in high school?

To work hard. There were times that I didn’t work hard, and then I would start failing, so then I realized that I really needed to step up my game.

What are you going to miss the most about high school and what are you going to miss the least?

I’m probably going to miss the free college classes. What I’m going to least miss is the requirement of having simple high school classes, because that’s a requirement if you’re going to take dual enrollment.

What are your goals for the future?

I want to get my career in whatever it is, maybe electrical engineering, but after that I want to major and get a Ph.D. in mathematics, and after that, buy a farm.
