1971: Two area residents remained hospitalized but in good condition after tornadoes tore through Bailey and Parmer counties.
Hattie May, 68, suffered a fractured ankle when her automobile was blown off the road two miles south of Lazbuddie.
Gerald Mendoza, 13 months old, suffered a laceration to his head when a twister demolished his family’s trailer home three miles southwest of Lazbuddie.
Officials reported five confirmed tornadoes did damage to at least 26 farms between Friona and Muleshoe.
1956: A man traveling between Clovis and Texico found a telephone and turned it over to the Curry County Sheriff’s office.
Authorities checked with the phone company and learned the phone was registered to Otis Foster of Route 2.
No information was available on how the phone came to be lost.
1951: Clovis Jaycees had identified a series of projects they hoped to complete in the coming weeks.
The Jaycees, meeting at Clovis’ Long Champ’s restaurant, voted to participate in a “paint-up, clean-up, fix-up” campaign and to paint at least one city residence.
The Jaycees were Clovis’ newest civic organization, receiving their charter on April 14, 1951.
