Busy week ahead for ENMU music

STAFF REPORT

The next few days look to be full of music with three performances planned by the Eastern New Mexico University Music Department.

The Spring Choral Concert will start at 7 p.m. today in Buchanan Hall and will feature vocal performances by students in the department.

“Three students will be performing transcribed works of Robert Schuman for alto saxophone and piano,” said music Professor Richard Schwartz of the Saxophone Quartet Studio Recital, which will take place at 7 p.m. Monday in Buchanan Hall. “A fourth saxophone student will perform a work for solo alto saxophone. Finally, a saxophone quartet will perform a composition by ENMU’s Professor of Music Dr. Mark Dal Porto.”

Schwartz said that audience members can expect to hear a “a variety of classical saxophone repertoire and a new work by Dr. Mark Dal Porto.”

While this new work, titled “Yin and Yang,” has only recently been composed, said Schwartz, it has already been performed at universities in New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

On Tuesday, the Brass Choir Concert will take place at 7 p.m. at Buchanan Hall, featuring performances from brass students in the ENMU Music Department.

All of the events are free to the public.
