ROSWELL — Junior Vicente Trujillo pitched a three-hitter and Atrisco Heritage took advantage of five Clovis High errors to beat the Wildcats 5-2 on Friday in the championship semifinals of an eight-team baseball tournament, hosted by Roswell Goddard.
The Wildcats (2-3) will play the loser of Friday’s late semifinal between Lovington and host Goddard for third place at 4 p.m. today, with the Jaguars (4-1) taking on the winner in the 7 p.m. championship game.
Senior Daniel Gallegos pitched six innings for the Cats, allowing five runs (two earned) and seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Atrisco took advantage of two errors to score twice in the top of the first, and sophomore Steven Barboa’s two-out, two-run double made it 4-0 in the second inning.
The Cats got on the board in the fourth when senior Gabriel Montoya reached second on a single and an error by the left fielder, and came home when Gallegos reached on an error by the Atrisco shortstop. In the fifth, sophomore Connor Langrell walked and sophomore Joe Gallegos walked to start the inning, moved up on a sacrifice and Jace Piepkorn hit a run-scoring groundout.
Trjjillo walked two and struck out two in the contest. Barboa went 2-for-4 for the Jaguars, who finished with seven hits.
