Area roundup: Maxwell tops Floyd

STAFF REPORT

In a grind-it-out game, not normally indicative of a 5-12 game, the visiting Floyd Broncos just didn’t have enough to pull off an upset as Maxwell took a 50-46 victory in the first round of the Class 1A state basketball tournament Saturday.

Seth Chandler scored 12 points to lead the Broncos (8-18), who led 40-38 entering the fourth.

Coach Steve Foust said the game was tight throughout, and the Broncos just couldn’t make the shots they needed to take control late.

Adrian Borrego and Edgardo Chavez had eight each for the Broncos (8-18).

Andrew Archuleta scored 14 to lead Maxwell (21-6).
