SAN ANGELO, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University’s softball team had a shot in the opener of Friday’s Lone Star Conference softball doubleheader with Angelo State, but couldn’t get the big hit.
In the second game, it was all Rambelles as ASU completed a 7-4, 11-1 sweep. The teams wrap up the series with another twin bill at 11 a.m. (MST) today.
ENMU (8-14, 1-5 LSC) took leads of 1-0 and 4-3 in the opener, the latter on a three-run fourth capped by junior Erikka Burke’s two-run double. Angelo, though, rallied back on an RBI infield single by Kelly Johnson and a two-run double by sophomore Madison Greenwell for a 6-4 lead.
Junior right-hander Kenedy Urbany (9-2) gave up 11 hits to the Greyhounds, but finished off the complete-game win with three shutout innings. Freshman second baseman Bailey Wallace drove in three runs for the Rambelles (17-4, 6-0) with a two-run double in the third and a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
ENMU stranded 11 runners in the contest, including two in each of the first five innings.
Second baseman Audrey Velasquez went 3-for-4 for the Hounds, while Burke, Susannah Chandler and Natasha Kissell were each 2-for-4.
ASU wasted no time in the second game, knocking Kissell (2-6) out in a six-run first that included Urbany’s three-run homer, a solo shot by Alexis Evans and a two-run triple by Ambra Hill.
Sophomore Morgan Hill (1-0) cruised to the win, shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule, on a four-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts. Left fielder Mariah Rodriguez had a pair of singles and scored ENMU’s only run on a fifth-inning single by Burke.
