LOVINGTON — Clovis High’s boys are having a hard time breaking into the win column.
The Wildcats came up short again on Friday, erasing most of a 14-point, third-quarter deficit before falling to Lovington 60-55 in a game added to the schedule this week after both teams lost three games when the CHS Holiday Classic was snowed out.
Senior Sebastian Sanchez scored 16 points and junior Kenny Oliver added 11 for Lovington (4-8), which built a 37-23 halftime lead with an 11-3 run to end the half.
“ That kind of opened it up,” CHS coach Scott Robinson said. “We got down by 14, but we really had a strong run in the fourth quarter.”
The Cats (2-10) got within five points a couple of times in the final period, but no closer.
Senior guard Eli Rodriguez had four 3-pointers and 20 points for the Cats, while senior guard Luke Bussen came off the bench to hit a pair of 3s and finish with a career-best 11 points.
“Eli’s doing a good job; he’s establishing himself as a consistent scorer for us,” Robinson said. “And Luke gave us a lot of energy and played his best game of the year.”
The Cats complete a weekend back-to-back with a 7 p.m. start today against Roswell High at The Rock.
