Clovis’ Dee Hill said she was tired of hearing police officers badmouthed and criticized for doing their jobs. And so she talked with other members of the Clovis Lions Club and they decided to do something “that let them know we appreciate them.”

That something was a Saturday lunch at the Curry County Fairgrounds for police, firefighters, other first responders and their families.

Lions Club members said area businesses donated about $5,000 to the cause, which also included door prizes and even a live band to go with the food.

The club fed about 250 people.
