La Casa sponsors first Tacky Sweater run

STAFF REPORT

Grab your tackiest Christmas sweater and a pair of running pants if you want to get in the Christmas spirit with a 5K dedicated to helping those in need.

A new event aimed at supporting families in need during the holiday season will make its debut next month.

La Casa Family Health Center in Clovis will be sponsoring the first Tacky Sweater 5K on Dec. 5.

Marketing Director Kaitlyn White described the event as a “family fun run/walk” in which participants are encouraged to wear “tacky” holiday sweaters.

“It’s an opportunity to dress up, get in the holiday spirit and support a great cause,” White said. “I’m hoping it’s going to be an annual event after this year.”

According to White, the run is open to all ages and the entry fee for adults is $15 and four cans of vegetables for children.

White said the proceeds will go to providing food for local families in need.

“Our providers and their teams work really closely with the patients at La Casa, so they have a pretty good understanding of the families that may need a little bit of extra help,” White said. “These families may have a lot of children or family members that are sick, so it will benefit those patients.”

White said participants can register in advance at runsignup.com and on-site registration will begin at 8 a.m.

Participants are requested to be on-site by 8:30 a.m., and White said the 3.2 mile run will begin at 9 a.m.

White said a free T-shirt will be available to the first 100 registrants, and the top three male, female and child finishers of the run will receive awards.
