Don’t get robbed: And while we’re on the subject of the holidays ... Local police are offering tips on preventing vehicle and home burglaries.

They come down to, “Lock it, hide or lose it,” according to a news release from Clovis police.

It seems every holiday season, there are vehicle and home burglaries in which the victim’s property was targeted as a crime of opportunity, the release said.

“Doors to vehicles and homes had been left unlocked by the victims and the burglars were looking for such unsecured property as an easy opportunity to steal,” according to Sgt. Daron Roach.

Police also warn shoppers to secure wallets, purses, firearms and gifts left in personal vehicles.

“Please remember to secure these items and not leave them in your car overnight or when going shopping, as these items are the target of opportunity for these thieves,” Roach said.
