Notebook — Nov. 11

Cheerful in the park: And now a shout out to local parks staff members who’ve been honored by the New Mexico State Parks Division.

Wilhemina Martin, the administrator for the parks’ northeast region, was awarded the Governor’s Award.

Conchas Lake State Park Staff received the parks’ Customer Service Award.

According to a parks’ news release:

The Governor’s Award is the parks’ most prestigious award.

It “recognizes an employee who performs duties in a superior manner and exemplifies, in attitude and action, those traits most desired in the division.”

Martin worked half a year alone in the Northeast Region office because the regional manager’s position was vacant. She performed “many extra operational duties well beyond the expectations of her position. She not only kept up with her regular duties as administrator, she assisted with staffing issues by working at other parks throughout the region when needed.

“And she did it cheerfully.”

Focus on customers: The Customer Service Award recognizes employees who exemplify the principals of customer service towards fellow employees, park visitors and general public.

The Conchas Lake staff was short on managers during the past year.

“The park staff stepped up to deal with all the issues that managers had been responsible for in the past. Together they made sure the park was in the best condition that it could be for all visitors.”
