STAFF REPORT

An armed suspect was apprehended after he was seen driving a stolen vehicle recklessly on Wallace Street north of 21st Street, according to the Clovis Police Department.

Clovis police officers apprehended an armed suspect that was seen driving a stolen vehicle recklessly on Wallace Street north of 21st Street Friday morning.

Interim Police Chief Doug Ford said before 6 a.m. officers received a call for service regarding a suspicious vehicle and activity.

When officers approached the vehicle, the suspect fled and officers began pursuit, but ended it shortly after in fear of endangering the public.

The suspect was seen later on Commerce Way, Ford said, where another officer “engaged him there.” Later, the suspect blew out a tire and fled on foot with an unidentified female, Ford said.

An officer caught up to the female and grabbed her, at which point the male suspect “turned with a weapon and pointed it at officers,” Ford said.

Officers began yelling at the male, who again took off on foot.

Officers were able to catch the male suspect when he fell from a fence and a Taser was used to gain control of the suspect, Ford said. He was taken into custody.

As of Friday afternoon, the male suspect had not been booked in the Curry County jail and was awaiting being medically cleared, Ford said.

Ford declined to release the names of either suspect because they had “not truly booked” them yet.

Ford said the incident remains under investigation.
