Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Notebook — Nov. 3

Nominees sought: The Clovis Municipal Schools Foundation/Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its seventh annual Purple Pride Hall of Honor Banquet in May.

Nomination forms are available on CMS’ web site under the Alumni Association section of the Foundation page, or at the CMS administration office at 1009 Main.

Nominations, submitted to Jelayne Curtis, will be accepted through 4 p.m. on Dec. 7.

Also, CMS has let us know that five officers from Yucca Middle School’s FCCLA chapter participated in the state officer retreat in Albuquerque. They were among more than 500 students participating in a variety of workshops.

Donors needed: In Portales, United Blood Services will conduct a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to noon next Tuesday in front of the hospital.

Donors must be at least 16, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.

Appointments can be made by calling 877-UBS-HERO or visiting bloodhero.org.

Don’t forget to vote: De Baca County voters are being asked to continue a tax levy for eight years to operate the De Baca Family Practice Clinic, with the tax translating to $14 per year for a $100,000 home.

In Portales, there are a pair of uncontested races for five-year terms on the Roosevelt General Hospital District — Scott Reeves in District 1 and Robin Inge in District 2.

In Texas, voters are asked about seven propositions, ranging from whether statewide-elected officials should live in the capitol to allowing smaller counties to perform private road construction and maintenance.
