PORTALES — Last week, the ENMU Greyhounds managed to stop a five-game losing skid with a win over Texas-Permian Basin.

The Hounds weren’t able to start a winning streak in their home finale against Lubbock Christian on Monday at the ENMU pitch as midfielders Cedric Omoregie and Tommy Fogarty teamed up on both goals in the first half of the Chaparrals’ 2-0 victory.
The scoring started early as Omoregie got his goal in the third minute when Fogarty crossed the ball to him to set up a header.
“We just came out a little slow and defensive-minded,” ENMU coach Paul Tate said. “We weren’t paying attention and they put one in right away.”
The Hounds (4-6-2) settled down after the initial goal, but Fogarty and Omoregie teamed up again for LCU in the 23rd minute. This time, it was Omoregie with the assist, setting up Fogarty for a left-footed goal.
It was Fogarty’s fifth goal of the season.
“I had an opportunity about five minutes before and I missed it,” Fogarty said. “The pressure was on and Cedric found me and put me in a situation where I could score.”
At the end of the first half, Lubbock Christian (5-6-2) had 10-5 advantage in total shots.
Following halftime, the Hounds had some scoring chances as they the majority of the half on the Chaps’ side of the field as ENMU held a 6-3 shooting advantage in the second half.
“I just told them to get out of the defensive mindset and start attacking,” Tate said of his halftime talk. “I told them we just have to keep pushing and get through this.”
ENMU had the shooting advantage, but wasn’t able to convert them into goals. LCU goalkeeper Tristen Putnam finished the game with four saves.
They Greyhounds are back on the road in a 6 p.m. matchup against rival West Texas A&M (8-4) on Wednesday in Canyon, Texas.
