LAWTON, Okla. — Eastern New Mexico University nearly got its first Lone Star Conference volleyball win on Tuesday night — and nearly knocked Cameron from the ranks of the unbeaten as well.
The Aggies, though, rallied from a two-set deficit to post a 22-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-9 win to improve to 12-0 (3-0 LSC).
Junior outside hitter Lauren Frye collected 21 kills — her sixth match this season with 20 or more — and added six total blocks for the Greyhounds (6-9, 0-5), while junior outside hitter Courtney Lawson (12 kills, 10 digs) and sophomore setter Alexis Aguirre (46 assists, 20 digs) each notched a double-double.
Freshman outside hitter Jenna Gillean posted 17 kills and senior outside hitter Kat Evans added 12 for the Aggies.
ENMU claimed the first set after four early ties and six lead changes. A 6-0 run erased a 1-0 deficit in the second game and the Hounds never looked back, finishing the set on a kill by Lawson for a 2-0 lead in games.
After falling behind 5-1 in the third set, the Aggies took command with a 13-2 surge. Gillean and Evans each had six kills in that set.
ENMU again led early in the fourth set, but a kill by sophomore outside hitter Kendra Adams gave Cameron the lead for good at 9-8 and started a 6-0 run.
The Aggies never trailed in the final set, building a 7-2 lead on Gillean’s kill. ENMU pulled to 11-9 on kills by Lawson and Frye before Cameron finished it with four kills, two by Gillean.
ENMU has an exhibition alumni match set for 6 p.m. Friday at Greyhound Arena, then starts a six-match homestand at 6 p.m. on Tuesday against LSC rival West Texas A&M.
