1985: Some Clovis streets remained flooded after heavy rainfall from four days earlier.

City officials were installing a pump “to alleviate the swelling of Greene Acres Lake,” the Clovis News-Journal reported.

Eleven homes on La Salle Drive were damaged by flood waters, residents said.

The city had received 1.2 inches of rain, but downpours north of Clovis had also contributed to the flooding, officials said.

1975: Area cattle raisers were stepping up to help the residents of Boys Ranch near Belen.

At least 41 calves, heifers, steers and bulls were donated to the ranch.

J.L. Powell of Elida and Fred Daugherty and Harold Dean of Clovis were among the ranchers involved in the donation.

1878: Billy the Kid and his gang were in Texas — at least sometime this month — to sell horses they had stolen from the Fritz ranch in Lincoln, according to the website aboutbillythekid.com.

In Tascosa, Texas, the Kid met and became good friends with a young doctor named Henry Hoyt. The Kid gave him a fine sorrel horse once belonging to Lincoln County Sheriff William Brady and, in return, Hoyt gave Billy the Kid a watch, the website tells us.
