Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Editor's notebook — Sept. 20

Still anticipating:

There is still no release date for “Comancheria,” the movie shot over the summer across eastern New Mexico.

Chris Pine and Ben Foster play bank robbers trying to save the family farm, while Jeff Bridges is a Texas Ranger trying to catch them.

While we still don’t know much more than we did when the film crew was in Clovis, Portales and Tucumcari a few months ago, here is some trivia/commentary supplied by the movie website cinemablend.com:

• “The film is directed by David MacKenzie, whose previous work, the prison drama ‘Starred Up,’ we were big fans of. It was also written by ‘Sons of Anarchy’s’ Taylor Sheridan.”

• “Screen Daily has the brief mention of the movie buried amongst several others that have reached deals for Swiss distribution (seriously, the places you find news).”

• “While there’s a lot we still don’t know about Comancheria, the cast and director are enough to get us really excited.”

• “... It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Bridges in anything good. His recent career has been focused on under-performing young adult fantasy stuff and this sounds like just the sort of thing he can be great in.”

• “While the premise feels like one we’ve seen before, it’s possible we’ve never seen a cast like this do it before.”
