Ex-ENMU player headed for Spain

Staff report

PORTALES — Former Eastern New Mexico University basketball player Phil Henry is going overseas for his second professional season.

The 6-foot-7 Henry, who set an ENMU career blocks record with 70 in just two seasons, will join Alza Basket Azuquece of the EBA league in Spain.

“We are extremely excited for Phil with this new opportunity,” ENMU coach Stott Carter said in a release from the school. “He has worked very hard on and off the court. Getting a chance to be a professional basketball player with a college degree speaks volumes to the type of student-athlete he was for at Eastern.”

Last season, Henry played for the Bronx Holy Flames in the American Basketball Association.
