1960: Bill Molder and Claudia Prince had been named the top bowlers at Portales’ Pinspotter Lanes.

Molder rolled a high game of 256. Prince had a 224.

1955: “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” billed as the “mightiest motion picture of them all,” was showing at the Tower Theater in Portales.

The movie house was “scientifically cooled,” according to newspaper advertisements.

1950: The Clovis Pioneers were preparing to host the Amarillo Gold Sox in a doubleheader baseball game observed as “Portales Night” at Bell Park.

Clovis civic leaders were encouraging Portales residents to attend the games, where a section of the stands had been reserved for their Roosevelt County neighbors.

1970: Caroland Garage at 1440 Thornton in Clovis announced plans to be “closed for vacation” through July 19.
