Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Notebook

Cool cars...

• The 2015 Great Race plans a stop in Tucumcari this morning, promising lots of vintage tin for car buffs to oogle. Among the cars expected are a 1964 1/2 Mustang and a 1917 Peerless. It's at 11:30 a.m. outside the Tucumcari Convention Center.

Public meeting...

• Clovis continues its tradition of transparent and open government 8:30 a.m. with the Public Works Committee gathering at City Hall. It's open to the public, unlike all Curry County committee meetings.

Help needed...

• United Way of Eastern New Mexico needs volunteers to help at a special distribution from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday in Portales. There are two shifts — 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. to noon. Most help needed for the first shift for such things as unloading and sorting food, bagging food and carrying food bags. Contact United Way 211.

Random observations...

• Some kind of little black gnat things toward the evening are more pesky than mosquitoes but at least they don't bite. Country folks north of Clovis reporting a plethora of grasshoppers. Corn and tomatoes thriving in rain followed by the heat.
