Portales jumping...

• It's the place to be today if you like parades, a car show and an assortment of live music. Heritage Days celebrations kick off at 10 a.m. with a parade starting near Second Street and Avenue O that proceeds to City Park. Vintage cars are on display most of the day and the Miss New Mexico Pageant finals are at 6 p.m. in the Eastern New Mexico University Theatre.

Good food and...

• The annual Juneteenth at Potter Park in Clovis features plenty of good food, including barbecue they start cooking low and slow at 4 a.m. It opens to the hungry public at noon. Another Juneteenth event — no food in this one — is the fifth Annual Community-Wide Juneteenth Celebration 3 p.m. Sunday at Legacy Life Family Church in Clovis.

Light 'em up...

• Both the Clovis/Curry and Roosevelt County chambers of commerce are asking for donations to ensure their annual July 4 fireworks display is nothing short of spectacular. More info...Roosevelt County 575-356-8541 and Clovis/Curry 575-763-3435.
