Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Clovis city commission meets 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.
Agenda items include:
• A 4:45 p.m. executive session is scheduled for discussion of acquisition or disposal of property.
• A proclamation for the annual Pioneer Days celebration and presentation of keys to the city for Miss Rodeo America Lauren Heaton, Miss Rodeo Washington Katherine Merck and Miss Rodeo New Mexico Kagan Massey.
• Presentation of awards for supervisor and line employee of the quarter to Ruben Alfaro and Charles Nunez, respectively.
• Proclamations marking June 4 as Texas 4000 Day and June 14 as Flag Day.
• A request to name two Clovis representatives to serve on the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority. Members with expiring terms include Authority Chair and former Clovis Mayor Gayla Brumfield, and current Mayor Pro Tem Juan Garza.
• An introduction of an ordinance for a $6.705 million bond sale. The money will be used for the Clovis Civic Center and various street improvement projects.
• A $2,000 budget adjustment for painting supplies and decals for the EF111 aircraft at Veteran’s Park.
• A 25-year non-exclusive franchise agreement with Southwestern Public Service Company and its successors and lessees to build, maintain and operate electrical power infrastructure.
• Appointment of Marcus Smith on the Planning and Zoning Commission and Michael Popescu on the Commission on Older Adults.
• Adoption of an ordinance to annex a unit of the Pheasant Run Subdivision.
• A resolution to allow for abatement of a dangerous building at 1821 E. Brady.
• A request to purchase a power vacuum sweeper for the Clovis Municipal Airport. The $190,000 cost would largely be absorbed federally ($150,000), with $20,000 matches from the city and state.
• A street closure from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday for the blocks north and west of the intersection of Grand and Fourth streets for a vintage car show.
• A request from Rooney Moon Broadcasting to use a city-owned stage for the Smoke on the Water Fireworks Show and a waiver of the $150 fee.
