Killjoy a word I don't ever want to be called

It isn’t a word I use. I don’t recall even hearing myself say it out loud. But it popped into my head the other day when I’d apparently had enough of a certain attitude.

Naturally, I began to wonder where the word came from. It’s so completely telling when used descriptively.

Someone, somewhere came up with the term, and it obviously took hold.

A little research shows its first appearance in writing came in 1776.

As I pondered this word, I decided it might be one of the worst things a person could be called. I thought about the times it could have been used to describe my actions. I hoped they were few and far between. I determined it would not be applicable in the future.

What is this horrible word? Killjoy.

Isn’t that an amazing combination of two words? One so full of life, the other so full of death.

Laughter silenced. Dreams trampled. Hopes crushed.

I’m making a plan. May it never be said of me. I’ll strive for the opposite. Encouraging. Supportive. Optimistic. Smiling.

And may I find myself in the company of those who share that lofty goal. Wishing the same for you.
