Rosie Jimenez, owner of Rosie’s Haircuts, cleans the counter in her shop on Monday afternoon. Jimenez said she likes being a business owner because she can set her own price rates and she is able to be in her shop as much as she wants.

Rosie Jimenez, owner of Rosie's Haircuts, said she never thought she would be a business owner.

"I've always worked for other people," she said. "This is a dream come true for me."

Jimenez, who opened her business in August of last year, said she grew up cutting hair.

"I've always cut hair, so I thought I might as well get my license to do it," she said. "My daughter, Francine, encouraged me to go to Clovis Community College."

Jimenez said she specializes in men's haircuts, but she will accept women and children customers as well.

"I'm so blessed to have a good income and an established clientele," she said. "We get a lot of customers from out of town; people come in from Hobbs, Dora, Floyd, Clovis, Muleshoe and other places."

Jimenez said the part she likes most about her job is the way she makes people feel while they're in the shop and when they leave.

"I want to make them look their best, and I try to be a source of support for them," she said. "It's about how you make them feel when they are in here."
