Angelo rallies late past Hounds

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Senior J.C. Snyder hit a two-out, three-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday night, lifting Angelo State past Eastern New Mexico University 8-5 and ending any chance of a Lone Star Conference postseason tournament berth for the Greyhounds.

ASU (33-14, 20-13 LSC) overcame a 5-2 deficit, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth before picking up four in the eighth off ENMU reliever Rusty Edwards (1-3).

The Hounds (15-29, 10-20) took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the fifth, coming on an RBI single by second baseman Dylan Nault and a two-run single from center fielder Chris Sanders. They added a run in the sixth on a squeeze bunt by Bradee Pierson, scoring Clyde Kendrick from third.

Dillon Becker (6-2), ASU’s third piktcher, worked three hitless innings, striking out six. The Hounds chased lefthander Steve Naemark, who entered the game with a 0.73 earned run average, after five innings.

Senior right-hander Cody Pope went six innings for ENMU, allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned).
