ENMU student accused of assault flees

Staff report

An Eastern New Mexico University international student has disappeared after being accused of sexual assault.

ENMU Police Chief Brad Mauldin said Abdulaziz Saleh Alsabi, 28, was accused by another ENMU student of sexual assault on April 3.

Police responded to the incident when it was reported at 12:15 a.m. at the San Juan Apartments.

Mauldin said alcohol consumption was a major contributing factor in the incident.

Alsabi has been charged with criminal sexual penetration, a second degree felony, and there is an outstanding arrest warrant for him, according to Mauldin.

Mauldin said Alsabi has fled from the primary jurisdiction of ENMU police, but the department is “actively pursuing the suspect.”

Mauldin said there is no further information at this time.
