Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Meetings watch

The Clovis city commission will meet at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Agenda items include:

- A request from the Curry Residents Senior Meals Association for $10,000 in assistance due to a budget cut caused when the organization failed to make meal service benchmarks. Representatives from CRSMA said the missed benchmark was due to numerous days of service missed from maintenance issue and inclement weather.

- A request to rezone a multi-family district on Tennessee Street to mixed development. The city’s planning and zoning commission recommended denial by a 3-2 vote, given a 29 percent protest rate from residents within 100 feet of the property.

- A presentation of the key to the city to former City Manager Joe Thomas, who retired Friday after 43 years with the city and more than 10 as city manager.

- A request from the Committee of Fifty to provide a free meal for active and retired military and their families at the Clovis-Carver Public Library during the June 27 “Draggin’ Main” event.

The event organizers have offered to do all setup and cleanup, and are requesting a waiver of the $350 in fees — $40 deposits each for the Ingram Room and the parking lot after hours, six hours of parking lot rental at $20 per hour and six hours of Ingram Room rental at $25 per hour.

- A request from the American Cancer Society to use four sets of bleachers and a city stage for its May 16 Relay for Life at Hillcrest Park. The organization is requesting a waiver of $350 in fees, and offers member participation in city cleanup events as compensation.

- A lease agreement update between the city of Clovis and the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce and Clovis Industrial Development Corporation, allowing the chamber’s business enterprise center to use a $100,000 state grant awarded in 2013 for facility upgrades.

- Approval for CDM Smith to perform this year’s air quality reporting for the city landfill, at a cost of $43,040.75.

- A task order for CDM Smith to conduct groundwater monitoring and reporting for the landfill at a cost of $102,573.71.

- A $10,000 budget transfer to repair an air wall at the Clovis Civic Center.

- A budget adjustment of $5,727.31 for an extension of parks master plan work through June.

- A street closure request for 7 a.m.-9 a.m. June 6 of Main Street between First and Purdue for a 5K run to benefit the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico and coincide with Pioneer Days.

- Quarterly lodger’s tax disbursements.

- The meeting will be followed by an executive session to discuss city property.
