Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Notebook

Yes, it’s spring...

• An overnight windstorm with blasts up to 50 mph and temperatures plunging into the 30s. Welcome to eastern New Mexico. Accuweather is promising less wind and warmer temperatures the rest of the week with highs in the upper 70s.

Coming up...

• The Eastern New Mexico University’s board of regents is a traveling road show this month. It's meeting Friday at the ENMU campus in Roswell.

• Sen. Martin Heinrich’s mobile office — complete with mobile staff — is in Texico for one hour Monday to meet constituents. Hurry up. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Texico City Hall.

Watch for...

• What’s Easter without an egg hunt. It’s April 4 in both Clovis and Portales. Clovis kids gather at 9 a.m. at the Guy Leeder softball complex; 2 p.m. at the Portales softball complex on Industrial.

The news cycle...

• At least two recent closures at the Cannon Air Force Base Portales gate were blamed two weeks ago on faulty detection equipment used to sniff out potential explosives. Now, Cannon public affairs says it was due to unspecified threats, though not necessarily local. We'll keep trying to get more information.

Final thoughts...

• Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! — Dr. Seuss
