Spring arrives just in time

Local columnist

That Monday seemed too good to be true. If only all weeks could begin like this one — productive meetings, delicious lunch, great promise in store.

But then what should have been a routine business meeting on Tuesday went punch-in-the-gut south. Wednesday crawled by. Deadlines were missed on Thursday. Friday carried bad news from friends.

You know exactly what I’m talking about. You’ve experienced this scenario yourself.

Saturday was a different story. It brought warm sunshine. Not the kind of warmth that surprises you in the middle of winter. No, this was a glow that was taking over, telling Jack Frost to take a back seat.

The sun warmed my back and melted my troubles away as I clipped dead stems from the rose bushes, already covered with thousands of tiny green leaves.

Neighbors enjoyed being outside on their porch, and the laughter from their conversation drifted my way, lifting my mood ever higher.

My cat found her place on the old glider and meowed at me occasionally to voice her approval.

Oh, spring, you have arrived just in time. When I thought the weight of the world might be a bit much, you came along to ease the load.

Thank heavens.
