3A Girls Championship
Texico (23-4) vs. Clayton (23-7)
1:30 p.m.
How they got here: Texico, seeded second, took control late in the first quarter and held off Eunice 52-38. The Yellowjackets, seeded fifth, upended top-seeded Tularosa 56-52 for their 12th-straight win.
Previous meeting: 2014 District 6-2A championship, won 46-32 by Texico.
4A Girls Championship
Portales (23-6) vs. Hope Christian (24-6)
3:30 p.m.
How they got here: Portales, champions in its final season in Class 3A last year, defeated St. Michael’s 36-29. The Rams come into Friday with a 10-game winning streak. Hope Christian, 48-40 winners over Shiprock, are on a 14-game streak.
Previous meeting: 2007 Class 3A championship, won 43-40 by Hope Christian.
2A Girls Championship
Melrose (23-5) vs. Tatum (26-3)
5:30 p.m.
How they got here: Second-seeded Melrose defeated Logan 65-48 for its fifth-straight victory. The Buffs are in their third title game in the last four seasons, and won the 1A title in 2012. Tatum, the Class 1A girls champ last season and the top seed in Class 2A this year, beat Magdalena 42-35.
Previous meeting: Dec. 12, Elida Tournament, Logan 43-34.
4A Boys Semifinal
Portales (17-9) vs. Hope Christian (25-4)
8 a.m.
How they got here: Portales won its 11th straight Wednesday with a 54-49 quarterfinal win over St. Michael’s. Hope Christian, coming off six consecutive Class 3A title game appearances with five titles, defeated Kirtland Central 77-58 for its 17th straight win.
Previous meeting: 2014 Class 3A quarterfinals, won 78-49 by the Huskies.
1A Girls Championship
Elida (21-6) vs. Cimarron (25-4)
11:30 a.m.
How they got here: Elida, the top seed and the four-time champion of the since-eliminated Class B, routed Evangel Chrstian 73-43. The Rams defeated Cliff 49-44.
Previous meeting: There is no matchup in the last nine seasons in basketball.
