FY15 STEP promotions

Tech. Sgt. Michael Sedlak, 9th Special Operations Squadron loadmaster, and Tech. Sgt. Avery Ryans, 27th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron C-130 Quality Assurance Inspector, were promoted to the rank of technical sergeant under the Stripes for Exceptional Performers program Jan. 12.

“While all of our Airmen are doing incredible work, two of our teammates have clearly displayed the ability to succeed as technical sergeants,” said Chief Master Sgt. Randy Scanlan, 27th Special Operations Wing command chief. “The accomplishments of the 27th SOW Airmen never cease to amaze me.”

Within Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Force STEP promotions are reserved for the elite among Air Commandos. This year, both Sedlak and Ryans found themselves amidst a select few.

“Putting your head down and doing your best work, every single day, is still the best way to get ahead in your career,” said Sedlak. “I have worked tirelessly to set myself apart and this proves that hard work does not go unnoticed.”

In addition to hard work, Ryans attributed his promotion to inspiration from his Air Force mentors.

“To me, being STEP promoted means I now have a greater shadow of influence, giving me the ability to help more Airmen succeed,” said Ryans. “I have had some really great mentors in my career and now it is my turn to give back to the next generation of future Air Force leaders.”

“I want to say thank you to all the people who have worked for me, with me and above me,” Ryans continued. “This was a team accomplishment and without all of you this would not have happened; I am truly grateful.”
