Auctioneer's license suspended

Staff report

The New Mexico Livestock Board has suspended the operating license of High Plains, LLC, also known as Producers Livestock Auction, in Portales.

A press release issued by the board on Jan. 28 said High Plains is under investigation for alleged violations of state and federal laws governing livestock markets and facilities.

The board said the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyards Administration (USDA/GIPSA) and District Attorney Andrea Reeb will be assisting in the investigation.

According to USDA, High Plains was also penalized in 2013 for violations of the Packers and Stockyards Act, waiving their right to a hearing and entering into an agreement to pay $750 for the violation.

The livestock board said they will not be releasing any other information until the investigation is complete.

High Plains could not be reached for comment.
