1975: A Clovis man was arrested in connection with the beating death of a 3-year-old girl. Angela Louise Johnson, daughter of Sara Mills of Grand Avenue Homes No. 34, died from a blow to the head while she was being disciplined, authorities said. She fell to the floor when she was struck, went into convulsions, and died soon after. The suspect was being held on a murder charge without bond.
1965: Clovis police were investigating the ransacking of Denton Oil Co. at 318 E. First. Someone knocked the glass out of the rear door to gain entry, officials said. The office was then ransacked, apparently in search of money. Seven cases of soft drinks, valued at $10, were taken, the Clovis News-Journal reported.
1961: About four inches of snow covered Clovis in what United Press International reported was the “long-delayed” arrival of winter in New Mexico. Roads were icy across the state. Cannon Air Force Base officials forecast clear and warmer weather for the next 10 days.
