The Airman & Family Readiness center will host an internet safety seminar from 11 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chapel Parish Hall Jan.14.

Janice Jones, 27th Operations Medical Operations Squadron Family Advocacy outreach manager, stated the seminar we will be led by Summer Crawley, Criminal Analyst from the New Mexico office of the Attorney General and New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children task force.

According to the New Mexico Attorney General ICAC website, the ICAC task force is a multi-agency network of law enforcement personnel statewide whose mission is to locate, track and capture internet child sexual predators and pornographers. The unit has a fully equipped computer lab specifically designed to provide forensic analysis to agencies working ICAC cases and other special investigations.

Crawley will discuss popular mobile apps, social media, cyber bullying, child predators and how to keep children safe when they are on the internet during the seminar.

“The state task force is a useful tool, but the internet still poses a serious threat to children who are unaware how to safeguard themselves through cyber channels,” Jones stated. “Programs like this internet safety seminar can provide a wide range of prevention training to parents to keep their families safe from predators.”

Volunteers will be available to provide childcare in the chapel play room; contact the A&FRC at 575-784-4228 to sign up for the seminar.
