Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Birds of a feather will celebrate together, as the Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce gets set to celebrate its past year with a banquet Friday night.
A few tickets are still available for the banquet, set for 6 p.m. at the Clovis Civic Center. Chamber Executive Director Ernie Kos said there were 25 tickets remaining for $45 each, and it’s still possible for a group to buy a last-minute table of 10 for $450.
The theme of the banquet is “A Feather in Our Cap,” selected by outgoing Chamber President Holly Stockstill.
“Basically, it’s been standard,” said Kos, who will take part in her 20th banquet Friday. “The highlight every year is the annual awards. It’s basically celebrating their year as president. We’ve had fiestas, patriotic themes over the years, lots of rock and roll themes.”
The chamber will present annual awards, including the citizen of the year, volunteer of the year, business of the year, ambassador of the year, ambassador spirit award, the heart award and the lifetime achievement award.
“The Heart Award has always been my favorite,” Kos said. “It’s because of the criteria of the award (and how it goes) to somebody who goes above and beyond to serve the community.”
Following the presentation of awards, Stockstill will speak about the year and hand the gavel over the incoming president Derek Cockrell.
“It’s exciting because it sums up the whole year, and we get to honor a lot of neat people and say thanks to all of the people who make the Chamber a success. That so many people come out and support it is a good thing.”
Stockstill said over the year, the chamber worked on a three-year strategic plan, Stockstill put together a newsletter and the chamber’s executive committee worked on forming a relationship with the Cannon Air Force Base spouse’s club. Stockstill said she wouldn’t do anything differently, but would advise Cockrell to do as much as he can because she felt like she ran out of time faster than she ran out of things to accomplish.
“It has been great,” Stockstill said. “It has gone really fast, but it has been good and I hope everybody else thinks so. I’m excited about all of the things we accomplish and I hope Derek has a good year as well.”
