Records: Artesia 6-4, Portales 2-6

Last time out: The Bulldogs lost at home to Centennial 75-66 on Saturday. The Rams were defeated by Smyer 55-48 on Monday in the Littlefield tournament, but the rest of the meet was postponed due to weather.

Of note: Three of Artesia’s wins this season have been over Portales’ District 4-4A rival, Ruidoso, by an average of 33 points. … Leaders for the Bulldogs are 6-foot-2 senior F Travis Wilkinson (16 ppg, 7.8 rpg) and 5-10 senior G James Lawson (15.2 ppg, 3.8 spg). … The Rams return to action this weekend in the Portales Shoot Out at the RAC, facing West Law Vegas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night and Las Vegas Robertson at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Last time out: Senior McKenzie Bucksath and junior Kambrey Blakey were selection to the Caprock Classic all-tournament team. The Lady Rams earned the sportsmanship award as well. …The Lady Bulldogs took the fifth-place game in a tournament at Aztec, beating Many Farms (Ariz.) 55-53 on Saturday. PHS dropped a 53-47 decision to Shallowater on Wednesday in the third-place game of the Lubbock Caprock Holiday Classic.

Of note: The Lady Bulldogs bounced back from a one-point loss to small-school Jemez Valley in the first round of the Aztec meet to beat the host school 53-49 in the consolation semifinals. … Madison Houghtaling, a 6-0 senior P, is averaging a double-double for the Lady Bulldogs (10 ppg, 10 rpg), while 5-7 senior G Santana Cavillo is scoring 9.3 points per contest. … The Lady Rams take on Clayton at 6 p.m. on Friday and Robertson at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Portales Shoot Out.
