1973: Clovis city commissioners, after lengthy debate, voted to grant a license for a second taxicab service. City Cab Co. opposed the competition, but Commissioner Pat Sandoval moved that the license be granted, “because Clovis is growing and there is a need for more cab service.” Commissioner Jewell Joiner was the lone dissenter, saying he didn’t want to see City Cab owner Gail Moore “go broke.”

Seventh and a large bowling trophy from 201 Redwood.
1960: A truck slammed into the Denton filling station at Kenna, severely damaging the large brick overhanging roof and its supports. The truck’s driver, Cecil Garner of Shreveport, Louisiana, said the accident happened because he was trying to avoid colliding with a car that had turned in front of him. Garner suffered a broken leg in the mishap. Ed Denton said he did not know how long it would be before repairs could be made.
